The popular saying "A fool at forty is a fool forever" implies that by the age of forty, a person should have gained wisdom, maturity, and a sense of direction in life. It reflects the idea that by middle age (40), one should have learned from life's experiences, gained knowledge, and developed good judgement.
However, as much as I desire that everyone reading this article to have gained all the above mentioned good things before reaching Forty, but the truth is far deeper than age. A fool at any age can remain a fool forever—if he refuses to let go of his foolishness. But the good news is that it is never too late to become wise because the day you wake up and wise up is the day you change!
Wisdom is not automatically given with age; it comes from learning, reflection, and a willingness to change. Some people grow older but not wiser because they refuse to accept correction, reject knowledge, and continue in destructive habits. The Bible warns: "The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice" (Proverbs 12:15). This means that wisdom is a choice, not a product of time. The difference between a wise person and a fool is not their age but their willingness to learn and change.
It is never too late to change. Some people realize late in life that they have been on the wrong path. Many people transform their lives in their 50s, 60s or even later. The good news is that as long as there is life, there is hope for change. The Bible reminds us: "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom" (Psalm 90:12). This means that at any stage of life, a person can begin to seek wisdom and make better choices. The key is to stop making excuses and start taking responsibility for personal growth be it you are Forty or not.
In conclusion, A FOOL AT FORTY—OR ANY AGE—will remain a fool only if he refuses to change. Forty is a milestone, but not the finish line. Wisdom and foolishness have no dateline, but growth is always possible. Though change is hard, but it's never impossible. Wisdom is always available for those who seek it...seek wisdom, seek Jesus (For Christ is the Wisdom of God, 1 Cor. 1:24)! The moment you decide to learn, grow, and make better choices is the moment your life begins to transform. So, wake up, wise up, and change—because it is never too late to become wise!
