I went for the treasure
Sensing the white flag that called
Far across the barricade.
Many things flashed my mind,
Calling me for prompt retreat.
Even my comrade felt my mist
With a loud shout he called
"Do not cross the barricade,
With the warning sign that read."
I shouldn't had crossed I knew
All soldiers have missions,
but this wasn't one of them.
It was a harmless trip I thought
It doesn't require a combat I guessed
So in a jiffy I leaped,
And a grin smile filled my face
As I made the pocket full of them
Thinking how rich I will be..
With any little of these.
Then the big night fell,
And I couldn't see my path.
A deserted soldier at bay.
I didn't have peace at all
Though I was at peace in sense.
I quickly reached for my light
As wandered through the hills
It was a horror sight to behold
That right in the midst of these
There hanged a ditch full of deaths
Corpses of heros with boots and tags
With nothing but bones remain.
Alas! I'm death I cried!
After wandering for weeks.
Then the last words I recalled
That my comrade uttered from far
As I crossed the enemy's line
"Watch out for beacon of light
And trace yours steps back home"
I lifted my head for the first time in days
And lo, the light was there
I can tell it burned for days,
Shining far for my return.
Hurray! At last I'm home!
Battered from cut of stones and thorns,
Strangled from the dusts and thirst
I reached out for the precious I brought
Shining it on the lamp that burned
Thinking at least I had gained
Twas nothing but pebble of stones!
Ahh! I nearly die for nothing,
A wasted time and strength
But the hard lesson was learned:
Stick to your post Oh Soldier,
Not all that glitters is gold.
